Location:
401 Beacon Parkway West, Birmingham, AL 35209. Position Type:
Part Time.
Shift: Day. Normal work hours: 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.; every other weekend (Saturday & Sunday).
The Crisis Care Center provides crisis stabilization for individuals experiencing a behavioral health and/or substance use crisis. The selected clinician will assess, admit, and refer clients, develop treatment plans, deliver direct clinical services (individual/group therapy, crisis intervention), initiate discharge planning, and coordinate ongoing care with external providers.
Responsibilities- Overall planning and coordination of admissions to the Crisis Care Center.
- Work directly and harmoniously with the Crisis Care Center psychiatrist, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNPs), Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Assessor, and all nursing staff.
- Conduct initial intake assessments (e.g., biopsychosocial, substance use), telehealth services with law enforcement/hospitals, and other individualized assessments; create recovery-oriented treatment plans; initiate discharge planning.
- Provide direct clinical services, including individual therapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention as indicated by individual need.
- Coordinate ongoing care with emergency departments, hospitals, community health/mental health providers as needed.
- Provide accurate documentation in debriefing for daily/weekly reports and/or treatment team meetings as stipulated by program demands.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in a human services field (e.g., Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy).
- Licensure not required for hire but preferred (e.g., LMSW, LAPC, LAMFT, LICSW, LPC, LMFT).
- If unlicensed, willingness to work toward obtaining licensure per ADMH guidelines to provide mental health and substance use services in the state of Alabama.
- Valid Alabama driver’s license and driving record acceptable to agency automobile insurance carrier for inclusion on agency policy.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of sound mental health practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of therapeutic techniques used in social, group and family treatment programs.
- Ability to address trauma-related issues.
- Ability to address substance-use related issues.
- Training in or willingness to be trained in crisis intervention, specifically Therapeutic Options.
- Organizational skills and clear communication orally and in writing.
- Accurate and effective documentation.
- Knowledge of the special needs and behavioral characteristics of individuals dually diagnosed with mental illness and substance use disorders.
- Ability to organize, coordinate and manage admissions to the Crisis Care Center efficiently.
- Ability to provide psychoeducation trainings/presentations (preferred).
