Job Description

To develop and lead an advanced practice operational and strategic infrastructure in alignment with the goals of UAB Medicine and where applicable, assigned service lines. To ensure the delivery of high quality and cost-effective care, based upon competency and evidenced based clinical practice and research. To demonstrate the ability to lead individuals/teams across disciplines and possesses an ability to work with all levels of staff within a multidisciplinary group.

To lead Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and Physician Assistants to contribute to organization-wide initiatives developed by UAB Medicine. To demonstrate financial accountability with operating budgets, provider billing and productivity benchmarks. To maintain expertise in clinical competency for inpatient or outpatient clinical care. To lead multiple advanced practice teams across the continuum, usually greater than 100 providers, and has direct oversight for team managers and team leaders.

This role may require weekends, holidays, and on call time depending on clinical responsibilities and/or weather events.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Demonstrates experience and mastery as practicing clinician. Serves as an internal and external expert consultant in clinical practice. Serves on department/service line and enterprise clinical practice administrative and improvement committees. Provides support to department/service line leadership in establishing practice protocols. Leads practice-based learning and improvement initiatives. Provides overview for current competencies and compliance. Oversees implementation of departmental/service line-based performance improvement for ongoing professional practice evaluation.
  
  May practice up to 20% of full time.
• Serves as a main advanced practice provider point of contact for the department/service line. Collaborates with senior clinical and administrative staff to establish the mission, strategic plan, budgets, resource allocation, operational plans and policies for advanced practice. Identifies, allocates and proposes resources to deliver projects/initiatives aligned with organizational mission. Represents needs and interests of advanced practice provider team to all levels of the leadership structure, department/service line and organization-wide level.
• Lead individuals and/or teams across disciplines and care continuum. Ensures collaboration and team building to create conditions for innovation and optimization. Effectively reaches department/service line and organizational goals while maintaining team cohesiveness and satisfaction.
• Interviews and hires staff to meet clinical and operational needs for current and future programs using selection processes consistent with organizational expectations. Oversees and assists in completion of new practitioner orientation.
• Ensures consistency with overall UAB standards and practices. Develops processes to collect, verify, and evaluate data relevant to professional performance. Works closely with the Office of Advanced Practice Providers to ensure consistent application of central policies, processes, procedures and systems.
