Ascent Hospitality is looking for a uniquely qualified hospitality leader to be our Banquet Captain!

The Banquet Captain is responsible for overseeing and directing banquet functions to ensure seamless execution and exceptional guest satisfaction. This role provides leadership to the banquet team, coordinates closely with clients and internal departments, and ensures all events are executed to the highest service and brand standards—from setup through breakdown.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Uphold company and brand standards, policies, and procedures; hold team accountable
  • Supervise and direct banquet functions, ensuring alignment with Banquet Event Orders (BEOs)
  • Oversee and assist with setup, execution, and breakdown of all events
  • Act as liaison between Sales/Catering team and event host/contact
  • Lead pre-function meetings, confirming staffing levels, service plans, and menu execution
  • Assign service stations and side work, ensuring efficient operations
  • Monitor all banquet functions throughout service to ensure quality, timing, and guest satisfaction
  • Respond promptly to guest needs and elevate concerns appropriately
  • Support scheduling, payroll reporting, and labor tracking with leadership team
  • Ensure proper control, requisition, and management of banquet beverage service
  • Inspect function spaces and storage areas to maintain cleanliness and organization
  • Enforce all safety and liquor law compliance standards
  • Verify accuracy of server paperwork and prepare captain’s reports
  • Assist in hiring, onboarding, and training banquet staff
  • Maintain knowledge of menus, pricing, and service standards
  • Ensure proper handling of lost and found items
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with culinary, sales, and hotel departments
  • Provide hands‑on service support during events as needed

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to lead in a fast‑paced, high‑volume banquet environment
  • Exceptional guest service mindset and problem‑resolution ability
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve operational challenges

  • Working knowledge of POS systems and operational reporting
  • Professional presentation, demeanor, and communication at all times
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts
  • Frequent use of hands, arms, and physical movement including bending, lifting, and reaching
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to push/pull equipment up to 200 pounds
  • Must be comfortable working in warm environments and with food products and cleaning chemicals
  • Must have strong visual acuity (close, distance, and color vision)
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; hospitality education preferred
  • Experience in restaurants, bars, or banquet operations strongly preferred
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Current food handler’s permit and alcohol service certification (as required by law)
  • Serv Safe certification required (or obtained within 30 days)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team
