Position: HUMAN RESOURCES PARTNER MANAGER

Job Description – HUMAN RESOURCES PARTNER MANAGER (T234653)

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an experienced Human Resources Partner Manager to independently manage HR services for a large complex department, college, or school. This role collaborates with senior leaders to strategically coordinate HR functions in a fast‑paced environment, working closely with Central HR on recruitment, compensation, benefits, training, employee relations, equity coordination, and other HR services.

Responsibilities

Strategic HR Leadership:
Create and execute the SON people strategy, including organizational design, competency coaching, career development, internal movement, retention, talent acquisition, and succession planning. Provide strategic counsel on faculty recruitment, retention, evaluation, promotion, remuneration, contract development, and professional development, and lead planning and implementation of operational plans, reporting, credentialing, faculty and staff development, and accreditation preparation.

HR Operations & Employee Lifecycle Management:
Direct all administrative HR processes—hiring, onboarding, performance appraisals, and HR relations for all employees; oversee position development, classification, compensation analysis, employee relations advisement, training and development, and evaluation processes; maintain accurate tracking databases; manage payroll and recruitment; oversee new hire, reclassification, and termination processes; administer Campus Time and Attendance; provide performance management advisement; ensure policy compliance and proper documentation.

Faculty Affairs Leadership:
Oversee all faculty personnel actions, ensure compliance with policies and regulations (affirmative action, equal employment opportunity), act as liaison between Dean’s Office and Provost Office, and manage SON Faculty Organization tasks such as promotion and tenure processes and guideline approvals.

Research, Grants, and Contract HR Support:
Direct HR support for the Office of Research and Scholarship for all grant‑ and contract‑funded HR needs.

Compliance, Reporting, and Data Systems:
Ensure compliance with UAB compensation guidelines, HR policies, procedures, and federal regulations; monitor safety programs and maintain the SON emergency contact plan and operation guidelines.

Staff Supervision:
Manage effectiveness of support staff roles through position and role reviews; supervise staff and ensure alignment with budget and financial policies.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
Communicate HR initiatives with departments, centers, and programs; oversee HR Office budget management and the School of Nursing employee merit process.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and ten (10) years of related experience (education requirement cannot be substituted by work experience).

Preferred:
Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other relevant field; ten years of progressively responsible HR operations and/or human resources experience; working knowledge of Oracle HR processes and UAB faculty and staff hiring; experience with grants and contracts HR support; strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, SharePoint, Oracle); and a minimum of two (2) years of UAB HR‑related experience.
