Position: BUSINESS OFFICER II

This individual will manage general HR functions of the School of Nursing Human Resources office by effective problem-solving, innovative thinking, effective planning, project management, leadership, and positive communication, in a diplomatic and confidential manner. As an integral part of the team, this individual will work with other personnel in the Dean’s office, SON students, faculty, staff, administrators, and office personnel across UAB’s campus.

This position has a direct report to the HRP Manager and the SON Director of Compliance.

Independently, in a confidential and professional manner: provides event management, oversight, and support; schedules faculty and staff training and development opportunities; provides project management and report support needed across the SON; manages biweekly payroll processing; provides data management support for personnel processes, to include maintaining credentialing and compliance data; manages the SON Human Resources web pages; and oversees and manages temporary and/or work study student employees.

In addition to these responsibilities, this position serves as a key HR data and systems resource for the School of Nursing. The individual will support HR information systems, maintain HR databases, develop and run SQL queries, build reports and dashboards, validate data accuracy, and provide analytics to support decision-making, compliance, and operational efficiency. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate HR data into meaningful insights for leadership.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

HR Data Management & Reporting
  • Collects, compiles, validates, and analyzes HR data from multiple systems to support SON HR operations, workforce planning, compliance, and leadership reporting.
  • Builds, maintains, and enhances HR databases, tracking systems, and data repositories for personnel, credentialing, compliance, and onboarding workflows.
  • Develops dashboards, scorecards, and recurring reports using SQL, Excel, Access, or other data tools.
  • Develops and maintains key performance indicator dashboards and performance metrics to support HR operations, compliance monitoring, and leadership decision-making.
  • Produces routine and ad hoc reports for leadership, accreditation, annual reporting, and compliance needs.
  • Ensures data integrity across HR systems and assists with validating data interfaces.
  • Supports audit readiness and data governance by ensuring HR data accuracy, compliance documentation, and adherence to institutional regulatory standards.
  • Builds and generates reports as needed.
  • Assists in data analysis and compilation of Annual Report data and provides data for other reports as needed.
  • Generates budget analyses as required (such as student assistant/work study expenditures).
HR Systems Support
  • Serves as the SON’s primary support for HR systems, including HRIS modules, timekeeping systems, applicant tracking, and performance systems.
  • Troubleshoots system issues, supports workflow improvements, and documents procedures.
  • Processes biweekly payroll and non-recurring elements as needed and ensures payroll processes are functioning in alignment with university policies and procedures; reports concerns to Personnel Generalist II.
Operational HR Support
  • Supports personnel processes by maintaining accurate credentialing, compliance, appointment, and other personnel data for the School.
  • Processes ACT documents, data changes, and nonrecurring elements with a focus on accuracy and data quality.
