Acting Up Opportunity for 12 months

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Schools Data Team. In this role, you will support statutory data collections for schools, alongside data management, in‑house systems maintenance, reporting and quality assurance activity across the directorate and with external partners. You will also contribute to the development of user‑focused data products and systems that support schools and key stakeholders, ensure statutory compliance and strengthen engagement with schools.

& Intelligence Officer Act Up Grade C – £35,412 – £41,771 Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review Working 36.5 hours per week Permanent, Full‑time, 36.5 hours per week (hybrid working – typically 1‑2 days a week in the Council House and be able to attend key meetings across Birmingham in person when required)

In the Children and Families Directorate at Birmingham City Council we are looking for innovative and curious Data & Intelligence Officers. We’re embarking on a one‑of‑a‑kind improvement journey that will affect families across Birmingham. We’re putting evidence and a data‑driven approach at the heart of this improvement journey to make sure we understand our citizens’ backgrounds, needs and views and can design and deliver services that allow children and young people in Birmingham to thrive.

We’re looking for dynamic and creative analytical professionals to produce insightful and impactful evidence that will lead to better outcomes for our Children and Young People.

About the Role

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the management and analysis of a range of data sources in schools and education data and performance. You’ll establish partnerships to identify requirements and interdependencies to produce a range of trusted and timely analysis products for operational, corporate, statutory and public users. You’ll support a number of analytical colleagues in service teams across the directorate to share standards and best practice and co‑produce key analytical products.

This role fundamentally supports the improvement of outcomes for children across Birmingham. The data, intelligence and information you collect and analyse will underpin education strategies and innovation programmes, so this is a fantastic opportunity to work on projects that benefit young people and their communities. As such, everything you do will be evidence based, geared towards continuous improvement and compliant with data protection legislation.

About

You

An established professional with a degree‑level qualification in a relevant subject you’ll have substantial data management experience and an excellent knowledge of qualitative and quantitative data management, transformation and analysis. You’ll have proven experience in designing, developing and implementing information and data management systems, including data collection, collation, analysis and reporting.

You’ll have experience of building and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of colleagues, stakeholders and external organisations. You’ll use your knowledge and experience of effective data management and relevant standards and legislation to ensure data is assured, available, accurate and analysed and where possible look for opportunities for automation. You will be user‑focused to ensure analytical outputs and data products meet a range of use requirements.
