Network and Cybersecurity Administrator

This position is being publicly posted in accordance with Alabama law. Please be advised that the Superintendent intends to recommend an internal candidate to fill this vacancy.

Job Goals:

  • To provide and maintain a strategy for the deployment of network and cybersecurity technologies, plans, and policies for the school system
  • To effectively lead a team responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, and maintaining Jefferson County Schools' network and cybersecurity infrastructure and application components
  • To successfully evaluate, maintain, and install a stable, secure, reliable and high performing network that assists school system personnel in achieving educational and operational goals
  • To provide visionary leadership, expert advice, and direction on network and server configurations to enhance technology system performance and data security

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field; or Associates' degree in a technology-related field and at least one of the following valid and current industry certifications:
    Cisco Certified Network Associate, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified:
    Security Operations Analyst Associate.
  • Five years' formal experience in a technology role, with a minimum of three years' formal experience in network and cybersecurity administration.
  • Experience and proven performance in leading a technical team.
  • Possess and maintain valid driver's license.
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .
  • High level of personal initiative and ability to work without close supervision.
  • High level of interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration.
  • Experience in managing daily operations and implementation of cybersecurity strategy, including identifying, reporting, and controlling cybersecurity incidents.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills including the ability to schedule, direct, and implement simultaneous projects or tasks to effectively protect and secure Jefferson County Schools network systems.
  • K-12 or post-secondary education experience in infrastructure planning and development preferred.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages and excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to relate complex technical concepts.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to stoop, bend, and lift/move equipment when necessary.
  • Ability to plan work, schedule tasks, oversee projects, and evaluate the work of others as assigned.
  • Ability to conduct and direct research into technology issues and products as required for resolution.
  • Ability to collaboratively plan for long-range goal achievement, to monitor plans, and provide constructive feedback for program improvement.
  • Excellence in solving problems as a productive team member and leader.
  • Excellence in long-range strategic planning for district-wide network and cybersecurity support.
  • Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may require.
  • Performance Responsibilities and

    Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Advocates, supports, promotes, and communicates all aspects of the Jefferson County School System technology programs, services, and initiatives.
  • Works within the school system community to promote excellent customer service, effective response times, and provides expert insights into general support issues.
  • Coordinates and supervises all network and cybersecurity infrastructure and systems with instructional goals through close interaction with appropriate administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Coordinates and supervises the work schedules and training for designated technology staff to ensure the timely completion of all projects and work orders.
