Position Overview

At PNC, our people are our greatest differentiator and competitive advantage in the markets we serve. This senior‑level Solution Architect role is based in Pittsburgh, PA;
Cleveland, OH;
Birmingham, AL;
Dallas, TX; or Lakewood, CO. Typical work hours are 8am–5pm EST. The position involves strategy, architecture, and innovation across business, application, platform, and data domains, interacting with senior leaders and stakeholders to bridge current state business needs with future state objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Develop solution and data architecture and resolve complex issues across initiatives through requirements analysis, architectural leadership, and project supervision.
  • Design solution architecture for large or complex programs, including system, application, and data designs, in alignment with enterprise strategies, standards, and target‑state roadmaps.
  • Define and govern data architecture patterns, including logical and physical data models, canonical data structures, data domains, and master/reference data strategies.
  • Provide architectural leadership for data platforms and ecosystems, including data warehousing, data lakes/lake houses, analytical platforms, streaming architectures, and cloud‑based data services.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical), data integration, data quality, metadata management, lineage, and lifecycle management.
  • Partner with business, analytics, and engineering teams to ensure data architectures support reporting, analytics, AI/ML, regulatory, and operational use cases.
  • Consult and guide IT and data engineering teams on data design, integration patterns, storage technologies, and architectural trade‑offs.
  • Develop solutions that account for non‑functional requirements (e.g., scalability, performance, resiliency, security, privacy, regulatory compliance) and apply appropriate architectural tactics to meet them.
  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders to analyze business requirements, data needs, and processes; produce architecture recommendations that align business, technology, and data strategies.
  • Oversee architecture outcomes across initiatives, ensuring solution and data architectures meet functional, non‑functional, and governance requirements at each phase.
  • Collaborate with enterprise data governance and risk partners to ensure architectures align with data governance, security, privacy, and regulatory standards.
  • Explore new and emerging technologies and data capabilities (e.g., cloud‑native data services, AI/ML platforms, streaming, metadata and governance tooling) and develop strategic viewpoints on how they enable business outcomes or introduce disruption.
  • Practice strong decision making and critical thinking by fully analyzing complex business, technology, and data‑related issues and driving well‑reasoned outcomes.
  • Practice enterprise systems thinking with a broad understanding of application, infrastructure, integration, and data architectures and how they collectively enable business capabilities.
Qualifications
  • University or college degree (or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience). 5+ years of industry‑relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in solution, platform, system, application, and data architecture, with solid working knowledge of business architecture.
  • Experience defining and operating data architecture patterns and leading data platform strategy.
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills, political and emotional intelligence, and the ability to understand and anticipate emerging business needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving, and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Experience with The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of machine learning (ML) concepts and capabilities is a competitive advantage.
  • Application of best practices for data modeling, integration, quality, metadata management, and governance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams and to influence senior stakeholders.
