Atlanta, GA or Birmingham, AL (4 days onsite/week)

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the strategic development and operation of Southern Company’s server and container-based computing platforms and systems that host enabling software in support of Southern Company’s applications. These enabling software products include web servers, middleware, SSL provisioning, DNS, and application traffic management. The role manages a team of 1 supervisor, fourteen full‑time employees, and eleven contracted workers. It is tasked with the design, build, enhancement, integration, provisioning, support, and maintenance of these compute platforms.

Working in conjunction with Infrastructure Services, application portfolios, end‑user services, IT security, technology leadership teams, and third‑party technology partners, the leader delivers highly reliable, quality computing solutions and services that meet the enterprise’s business, architectural, and performance standards while appropriately managing risks for compliance and reliability.

Windows IIS, Apache Tomcat, Red Hat Open Shift, Web Sphere, Web Logic, Java, Oracle Client, F5 load balancers, Web Application Firewalls, Boomi, IBM MQ, Keyfactor, Global Scape.

Responsibilities
  • Establish strategic direction for enterprise computing services technologies.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive computing services technology roadmap.
  • Drive continuous improvement of computing solutions and services.
  • Partner with business leaders to ensure alignment of computing services strategy.
  • Lead and manage an organization of computing services leaders and technical professionals.
  • Drive innovation and leverage technology to create value.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with senior leadership, industry peers, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Provide leadership for strategic initiatives to improve computing infrastructure.
  • Deliver computing solutions balancing commonality and customization.
  • Manage costs and rationalize/simplify the company’s computing service technologies.
  • Enforce policies, best practices, processes, and program/project management of the technology portfolio.
  • Anticipate future technology and industry shifts as a business and technology student.
  • Monitor operating model and design for efficiencies and synergy.
  • Create and manage computing services budget.
  • Hire, develop, retain a high‑qualified and diverse leadership team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and engagement.
Qualifications
  • Degree required; BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Four or more years of experience in IT, leading teams, and supporting infrastructure or applications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IT environments, including telecommunications, networks, compute, application integration, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience establishing technology strategies and roadmaps.
