Job DescriptionUnder minimal supervision, the Clinical Informaticist II positively influences health care delivery and patient care outcomes, promotes quality initiatives and makes efficient use of resources. The Clinical Informaticist II assists the Director/Manager Clinical Informatics (CI) in the development of tactical plans for both the CI department and assigned service line(s) Clinical Information Systems (CIS) components in support of overall UAB Medicine’s goals.
The Clinical Informaticist II is responsible for the delivery of design and support services to assigned CI service line(s) (clinical, quality, training/testing, &/or analytics) to foster collaboration and coordination of patient care across the continuum through the design of processes/workflows, CIS planning, implementation, and end‑user support. The Clinical Informaticist II applies informatics practice expertise to design and deliver CI service standards and methods in alignment with professional standards of clinical and business practice.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as a Clinical Informatics design and support consultant in the life‑cycle of CIS solutions.
- Utilize critical analysis to plan, problem‑solve, and mitigate risk in the deployment of CIS solutions and related processes.
- Deliver the CI design and end‑user support functions to demonstrate effectiveness of processes, and identify potential areas for improvement, including clinical process redesign, workflow mapping, evaluation and design of information flow, end‑user needs assessment and functional requirements definition, CI team assignment planning, and CI end‑user support planning and delivery.
- Apply CIS use and outcome data to improve CI design and support services delivery.
- Act as a Clinical Informatics expert and collaborate with appropriate audiences to enhance use and efficiency of CIS.
- Collaborate with the CI Quality team in the development and execution of learning and performance plans.
- Provide consultation and problem resolution support in conjunction with implementation teams and project managers for design and end‑user support, measure(s) of success definition for the deployment and value realization of CIS solutions.
- Participate in the CI Professional Development Program.
- Champion and engage in adoption efforts for CIS implementations and upgrades.
- Recognize the impact of change and strategically support communication and education efforts.
- Effectively participate in system‑wide cross‑functional teams in a matrix reporting structure, supporting collaboration and championing evidence‑based CIS best practices methods and solutions.
- Establish credibility among stakeholders and assist project teams in realizing expected improvements through engagement on the execution of CIS operational and tactical plans.
- Collaborate with the CI Quality team, contributing to the development and adherence to CI quality controls and processes for capacity planning, work‑effort outcome metrics and reporting, communications, knowledge management, and learning.
- Facilitate effective use of clinical information and technology to ensure optimal data integrity.
- Participate in post‑implementation change evaluation and support users in maintaining changed workflow and technological processes.
