Assistant Materials Manager – AMSTI – UAB

- Assist with oversight of the operation of the AMSTI site.
- Interact with and Power School via computer or tablet to ensure that ACES data for the region is accurate and up to date.
- May assist in supervising materials specialists assigned to the materials center, acting as a floor manager.
- Assist in providing materials, supplies, and equipment to AMSTI‑trained teachers as specified by AMSTI‑ALSDE.
- Assist in coordinating the purchase, inventory, scheduling, and distribution of science and mathematics teaching kits and materials.
- Communicate effectively with teachers about their materials usage and professional learning based on information provided by AMSTI and AMSTI‑ASIM staff.
- Assist in organizing the AMSTI site to ensure efficient use of space and safe storage.
- Assist with preparation for AMSTI and ASIM programs, trainings, presentations, and the operation of the materials center.
- Provide reports to the site director and/or AMSTI‑ALSDE regarding teachers’ materials orders and usage, distribution schedules, purchasing, employee assignments, and labor hours, as requested.
- Serve as the financial/budget/grant manager for the AMSTI site.
- Maintain adequate archives of financial records so that information from prior years can be located when needed.
- Oversee and maintain AMSTI site facilities (grounds, structures, environmental control, telephone, alarm service, etc.).
- Assist in maintaining a safe working environment.
- Attend all required professional learning activities and staff meetings (in-person or virtual) conducted by the ALSDE or BOLT unless prior approval for absence is granted by the meeting host.
- The AMSTI assistant materials manager is a 12‑month contract position.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serves as the financial/budget/grant manager for the AMSTI site. Advises on budgeting needs to AMSTI‑UAB director, analyzes spending, decisions, amendment, and budget closeout needs.
- Submits reports and amendments, reconciles and balances monthly budgets using Oracle, and collaborates with director and other staff as needed on funding and spending plans.
- Evaluates and initiates quarterly statements, final invoices, re‑classifications, and account transfers.
- Submits payment requests and purchase orders through Oracle for facilitator payments, district payments, travel expenses, or other expenses as needed, and executes contracts for facilitators for PD meetings.
- Collaborates with school district administrators and school‑based administrators/representatives to plan, organize, implement, and execute professional development for teachers within the AMSTI‑UAB region, compiling and archiving registration documents for PD meetings.
- Assists with oversight of the operation of the AMSTI site, supervises daily office operations, and collaborates with office staff and professional educational staff to help achieve the mission and organization goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the business/materials manager, site director, general managers, or AMSTI‑ALSDE.
$48,649 – $75,673.
Minimum RequirementsBachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience.
Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
A driver's license valid in the State of Alabama may be required based on departmental needs.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesApproximately one (1) to three (3) indirect reports.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities- Ability to relate well to a diverse population.
- Demonstrated competence in oral and written communication.
- Strong organizational skills.
Experience in warehousing, accounting, purchasing, inventory, database management, business operations, and facility management.
Physical RequirementsMeet physical demands of the job, including but not limited to: lifting to 60 pounds, climbing, crouching/stooping, handling, pushing/pulling, repetitive movement, speaking, standing, walking/running, carrying, driving, keyboarding, reaching, sitting, squatting, twisting/bending.
