Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, food service management, business administration, education, or a related field is preferred.
- Must meet or exceed USDA minimum hiring requirements for a Food Service Director.
- Must meet or exceed Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) Child Nutrition Director requirements and obtain position approval.
- Minimum of 23 years of experience in child nutrition, food service management, school operations, or a related role preferred.
- Experience working with a Food Service Management Company strongly preferred.
- Ability to complete required ALSDE Child Nutrition Director annual training and maintain at least 12 hours of annual professional development.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of federal and state child nutrition regulations, including USDA, ALSDE, and USDA Civil Rights requirements related to Child Nutrition Programs.
- Understanding of procurement and contract compliance requirements related to FSMC oversight.
- Ability to oversee food service revenues, expenditures, and net cash resources.
- Skill in oral and written communication with school leaders, vendors, state agencies, and community stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities within a part-time schedule.
- Ability to handle sensitive financial and compliance-related information with discretion.
- Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology and data systems used for reporting, invoicing, and claims submission.
The Child Nutrition Program (CNP) Director is a part-time oversight, compliance, and coordination role responsible for ensuring that i3 Academy's Child Nutrition Program operates in full compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. The CNP Director serves as the primary liaison between i3 Academy, the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), and the Food Service Management Company (FSMC).
This position provides structured oversight of child nutrition operations across three campuses and food service areas, with a focus on regulatory compliance, financial monitoring, contract oversight, and coordination with school leadership and the finance office. Daily food service operations remain the responsibility of the FSMC.
Duties And Responsibilities- Program Oversight and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all USDA, ALSDE, and local Child Nutrition Program regulations, including USDA Civil Rights requirements.
- Serve as the primary contact with the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) Child Nutrition Program.
- Complete all required annual trainings and professional development for the CNP Director role.
- Prepare for and participate in monitoring visits, audits, and reviews related to the Child Nutrition Program.
- Maintain accurate program documentation and records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- FSMC Oversight and Daily Operations
- Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison with the Food Service Management Company (FSMC).
- Provide regular onsite monitoring of FSMC operations and troubleshoot operational issues as needed.
- Monitor FSMC performance for contract compliance, service quality, and regulatory adherence.
- Support procurement and contract compliance, including required documentation, contract monitoring, and record retention.
- Act as the primary liaison between school leaders and the FSMC to ensure alignment with school expectations and student needs.
- Financial Management and Reporting
- Oversee food service revenues and expenditures.
- Monitor net cash resources and report any concerns or trends to the Chief School Financial Officer (CSFO).
- Review, reconcile, and approve food service invoices in coordination with the accounting/finance office.
- Submit accurate and timely claims for reimbursement.
- Committees and Wellness Leadership
- Serve as Wellness Committee Coordinator, ensuring compliance with local wellness policy requirements.
- Lead the Menu Advisory Committee, coordinating stakeholder input and supporting student-centered menu planning.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Work closely with school administrators, operations staff, and vendors to support effective food service operations.
- Communicate regularly with school leadership regarding program performance, compliance, and improvement opportunities.
- System and Process Improvement
- Evaluate and improve systems and processes related to child nutrition operations, monitoring, and reporting.
- Support program growth as enrollment and funding increase.
