Controller, Management, Accounting Manager

Our client, a highly respected and long-established Birmingham-based professional services firm, is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is a high-visibility leadership role within a stable, polished, and professional environment—ideal for a seasoned accounting leader who values excellence, discretion, and long-term impact.

The Controller will oversee the full accounting function, manage a small and capable team, and work closely with firm leadership and equity partners.

• Oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including A/R, A/P, payroll, taxes, and general ledger
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes; prepare timely and accurate financial statements
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Oversee equity partner distributions and related reporting
• Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and internal control requirements
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of three accounting professionals
• Partner with firm leadership to support strategic and financial decision-making
• Drive process improvements while maintaining the firm’s high professional standards

• Minimum of 8 years of overall accounting experience
• Active CPA license required
• At least 3 years of management or supervisory experience
• Experience overseeing a full accounting function (professional services experience is a plus)
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
• High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail
