Position Summary Reporting directly to the General Manager/COO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing strategic financial leadership while overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, treasury, internal controls, and compliance functions of the Country Club of Birmingham. The CFO partners closely with the General Manager, Department Heads, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors to ensure the Club's financial integrity, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability.
This position requires a collaborative, hands-on leader who combines strategic vision with strong operational execution and maintains a full-time onsite presence at the Country Club of Birmingham.
- Lead all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
- Prepare and present timely monthly, annual, and ad hoc financial reports to the General Manager, Finance Committee, Board of Directors, and membership.
- Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, recommend corrective actions, and support strategic decision-making through cost-benefit analyses and trend forecasting.
- Develop annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with department leaders.
- Direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, bank reconciliations, journal entries, member billing, collections, and tournament accounting.
- Oversee cash management, banking relationships, investments, and safeguarding of Club assets.
- Ensure accurate financial records are maintained in accordance with GAAP and organizational policies.
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Coordinate annual audits and oversee preparation of federal, state, and local tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Club policies.
- Manage the Club's insurance programs and work with legal counsel on financial and compliance matters.
- Oversee financial management systems, accounting software, system upgrades, and technology initiatives supporting finance operations.
- Partner with internal staff and vendors to improve operational efficiencies and financial reporting capabilities.
- Recruit, develop, supervise, and evaluate accounting department staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in employee benefits administration in partnership with Human Resources and the General Manager.
- Attend Finance Committee, Board, and other leadership meetings as required.

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field required.
- Master's degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred.
- Five to seven years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
- Minimum two years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated success leading accounting teams and managing complex financial operations.
- Experience with financial systems implementation and technology oversight preferred.
- Hospitality, private club, or service industry experience is a plus.
- CPA or CMA preferred.
- CHAE designation, or willingness to obtain, is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Strategic thinker with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate financial information for diverse audiences.
