The Structural Steel Coatings Foreman oversees and coordinates the preparation and application of coatings on structural steel, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements. This role requires hands-on experience with coating systems, surface preparation, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and lead a team of painting applicators and laborers on-site.
  • Coordinate surface preparation, including abrasive blasting, grinding, and cleaning, to meet painting specifications.
  • Oversee the application of various coating systems (primer, epoxy, urethane, intumescent, etc.) on structural steel.
  • Ensure paint is applied in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and industry standards (SSPC, NACE, ASTM).
  • Inspect work for quality, coverage, thickness, and adherence to specifications.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and materials needed for coating operations.
  • Train and mentor crew members on proper coating techniques and safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with project managers, inspectors, and other trades to maintain schedule and resolve issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including proper use of PPE and fall protection
Required Qualifications:

Proven experience as a paint foreman or supervisor in structural steel or industrial settings.

Strong knowledge of surface preparation methods, coating types, and application techniques.

Familiarity with industry standards (SSPC, NACE, ASTM) and quality control procedures.

Ability to read and interpret project drawings and specifications.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Physical ability to work at heights and in varying conditions

Preferred Qualifications:

SSPC Coating Inspector or NACE Level 1/2

OSHA Safety Certification

Confined Space and Fall Protection Training

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work on a fabrication shop floor with exposure to noise and heat.

Comfortable standing, walking, and moving components as needed.

Able to use personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Works on construction sites, fabrication yards, and industrial facilities.
  • Exposure to chemicals, paints, solvents, and varying weather conditions.
  • May require overtime, weekend work, and travel to project sites.
