Position Summary
The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for the construction, maintenance, repair, and optimization of injection molding tools and related fixtures used in high-volume automotive manufacturing. This role ensures molds meet dimensional, cosmetic, and cycle-time requirements while supporting production uptime, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Build, modify, repair, and maintain plastic injection molds, dies, gauges, fixtures, and tooling components to OEM automotive standards
- Troubleshoot mold-related production issues including flash, short shots, warpage, cosmetic defects, and part dimensional variation
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on multi-cavity and hot runner injection molds
- Diagnose and repair tooling components such as slides, lifters, ejector systems, cooling circuits, cores, cavities, and hot runner systems
- Work from blueprints, CAD models, GD&T, and engineering change documentation
- Operate precision machine tools including CNC and manual mills, lathes, grinders, EDM (wire and sinker), and polishing equipment
- Collaborate with Process Engineers, Maintenance, Quality, and Production teams to improve mold performance and reduce downtime
- Support mold trials, process validation, and launch activities for new and revised tooling
- Ensure tooling meets PPAP, APQP, and customer quality requirements
- Maintain accurate records of tooling repairs, modifications, and preventive maintenance activities
- Follow all safety, housekeeping, and 5S standards in a manufacturing environment
- Minimum 5+ years experience in plastic injection molding tooling
, preferably automotive - Strong understanding of injection molding processes, materials, and mold design principles
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T
- Experience with hot runner systems (e.g., Husky, DME, Mold-Masters, Synventive)
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools (CMM, micrometers, calipers, height gauges)
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced production environment
