Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site Machine Shop Manager role based in the Greater Birmingham, Alabama area. The Manager oversees day-to-day shop operations, including scheduling, prioritizing, and coordinating machining and repair jobs to meet customer deadlines and quality standards. The role involves supervising machinists and technicians, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and promoting a safe, efficient work environment. The Manager will plan production workflows, allocate resources, and ensure machines, tools, and materials are available and properly maintained.
Responsibilities also include overseeing quality checks and inspections, troubleshooting production issues, collaborating with sales and field service teams, and supporting continuous improvement in processes, safety, and customer service.
- Strong production planning and production management skills to coordinate workflows, set priorities, and meet delivery timelines.
- Hands‑on machining experience, with the ability to understand machine capabilities, interpret drawings, and guide shop personnel on best practices.
- Knowledge of quality management principles, including setting standards, developing procedures, and driving continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in inspection techniques and the use of measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure adherence to specifications.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a machine shop or industrial environment, including team supervision, coaching, and performance management.
- Familiarity with industrial safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe, organized shop.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders; strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal teams and customers.
- Experience in heavy industrial repair or welding environments is preferred.
- Relevant technical training or certification in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
