Mechanical Technician (Sander / Buffer – Fabrication Shop)
We are hiring hands-on Mechanical Technicians to support production in a fabrication and manufacturing environment. This role focuses on sanding, polishing, and finishing fabricated parts, with opportunity to grow into quality control and advanced production tasks. Ideal candidates will have experience with tools, construction, or manufacturing and a strong attention to detail.
Pay: $19–$20/hr
Shift: Day shift (Monday start dates)
Openings: 2–3 positions available
Key Responsibilities
- Perform sanding, grinding, and polishing on fabricated metal parts to meet finish specifications
- Prepare surfaces for coating, including masking, cleaning, and paint prep
- Measure and map material thickness to ensure parts meet required tolerances
- Assist with quality checks, including basic inspections and measurements
- Read and interpret tape measurements, basic drawings, and work instructions
- Use hand tools and power tools such as drills, grinders, and sanders safely and effectively
- Support sandblasting and finishing processes as needed
- Assist with general production tasks including material handling, staging, and organizing work areas
- Participate in basic assembly and fabrication activities
- Maintain accurate material counts and assist with inventory tracking
- Operate forklifts or material handling equipment when trained
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment
Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, construction, or similar hands-on environment
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately
- Basic math and computer skills
- Experience with sanding, grinding, polishing, or finishing processes preferred
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools
- Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a team setting
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
