Job Description
Perform welding repair and maintenance to stationary production equipment, machinery and structures such as conveyors, crushers, elevators, drives and screws at aggregate, ready‑mix and asphalt plants. Tack welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc or other welding equipment. Cut work pieces using powered saws, hand shears or chipping knives. Melt lead bar, wire or scrap to add lead to the joint or extrude melted scrap into a reusable form.
Install or repair equipment such as catwalks, ladders and other minor repairs. Remove rough spots from work pieces using portable grinders, hand files or scrapers. Heat, form and dress metal parts using hand tools, torch or arc welding equipment. Ignite torches and adjust valves, amperage or voltage to obtain the desired flame or arc. The welder is expected to weld, lay out, fit, position, secure parts and assemblies and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames and walkways, according to specifications using straightedge, combination square, calipers and ruler.
The welder will perform welding repair and maintenance on stationary production equipment, assemblies and structures within aggregate, ready‑mix, and asphalt plants. Responsibilities include tack welding, cutting, lead melting, equipment installation, surface preparation and fabrication of metal components.
Essential Functions- Ability to weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions.
- Ability to work in high and/or precarious places or cramped work spaces that require awkward positioning.
- Good manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, grind, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, push, pull, bend and lift up to 45 pounds for extended periods.
- Sufficient language and math level to read technical manuals, record repairs, operate welding machines and perform other tasks.
- Perform preventive maintenance repairs in accordance with established procedures.
- Prepare welding area and weld joints.
- Read and interpret welding blueprints.
- Maintain daily reports as required by company regulations.
- Monitor the welding process and make adjustments as needed.
- Operate forklift or man‑lift as required.
- Assist in maintaining and organizing welding equipment and work area.
- Comply with all safety, health, environmental and company policies, procedures and requirements.
- Learn and use a variety of hand and power tools, including cutting torch and welding equipment, to rebuild and fabricate parts.
- Communication – communicates clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, and adapts messages to the audience.

- Technical Expertise – solid mechanical understanding of mobile equipment, basic maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues.

- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent combination of training and work experience.
- 5+ years of industrial welding experience required.
- High school or recreational welding experience preferred.
- Understanding of oral and written instructions of a technical nature related to products and vehicles.
- Operation of welding equipment to join metal components.
- Excellent driving skills and ability to maintain satisfactory customer and public relations.
- Good mechanical skills; knowledge of raw materials and production process preferred.
- Reading and interpreting welding blueprints.
- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects.
- Good mechanical and welding skills.
- Travel to other facilities may be required.
- Ability to work required overtime, flexible schedule, extended hours and weekends as demanded by customers and company.
- Outdoors exposure to varying and/or extreme weather conditions (heat, wet, cold, etc.).
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects.
- Ability to work overtime and extended hours including weekends.
