Job Description

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Machinist to join our Back Shop department based in Mobile, AL. The team at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facilities help assemble the finest aircraft in the world, along two (soon to be three) production lines for the A220 and A320 Family aircraft. On the shop floor you’ll be surrounded by individuals who are passionate about aviation and skilled in areas like electrical, structure and quality.

Working Environment

Machinist will work in the Machine Shop, set up and operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Production equipment as well as manual shop equipment (milling machines and lathes). This employee will work with minimum supervision fabricating.

Responsibilities
  • Manufacturing Parts (45%):
    Perform all aspects of machining like setup and operation of 3‑axis and 5‑axis CNC mills, lathes, routers, lasers, and manual milling machines. Read, interpret blueprints and engineering documents, produce quality products, maintain quality standards for aerospace materials, and use measuring techniques and tooling knowledge. Start, observe, and adjust machine operations. Verify conformance to specifications, conduct inspections, and resolve machining issues with supervisors and quality teams.

    Adhere to safety and security requirements.
  • CNC Programming (30%):
    Code programs for new parts that enter the shop, create and correct DXF and GNH files in Enroute or Gravostyle software, establish sequencing of cuts, choose cutting tools, and provide setups instructions. Review CAD design blueprints and establish sequencing of cuts.
  • Sheet Metal Installation (10%):
    Read detailed plans and diagrams and inspect parts prior to assembly. Cut, grind, or trim parts to fit, following engineering instructions. Provide adjustments or replacement parts. Assist in development of patterns or templates and perform cuts, filing, drilling, and reaming of metal, plastic, and rubber sections.
  • Other Duties (15%): SAP, time charging, manage Personal Time Bank (PTB) and Vacation (VAC). Part mark bag, tag, complete work order.
  • Compliance and Integrity:
    Demonstrate awareness of potential compliance risks and commitment to act with integrity.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent Trade School Certification.
  • 2–5+ years of experience in a Machine/Fab Shop.
  • 2–5+ years of experience in Aerospace (or related/transferrable field).
  • Ability to write CNC code from drawings, create and correct DXF and GNH files, read and interpret blueprints and machining parameters.
  • Knowledge of blueprint drawing tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T), ISO compliant documentation.
  • Basic computer skills with AutoCAD, EnRoute, Gravostyle, Word, Excel.
  • Effective interfacing with Engineers and Quality, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with aviation sheet metal work and use of hand deburr tools.
  • Travel up to 10% domestic and international.
  • Eligible for employment in the US without current or future need for visa sponsorship.
