Chemical Operator
Job Description
The Chemical Operator plays a key role in a regulated manufacturing environment, carrying out routine production tasks, operating basic equipment, and supporting safe, high-quality chemical processes. This position suits an experienced practitioner who can work with guidance but without constant supervision, follow strict and detailed instructions, and contribute to consistent product quality and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
+ Operate basic production and processing equipment safely and efficiently, following established procedures and strict, detailed instructions.
+ Carry out routine operational tasks within defined process settings and parameters to support chemical manufacturing activities such as compounding, blending, batch making, and chemical mixing.
+ Follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and strict quality guidelines to support the quality function and help ensure products meet regulatory and organizational requirements.
+ Assist with the installation of equipment and appliances by performing preparations and providing hands-on support in accordance with detailed work instructions.
+ Help maintain and repair equipment and appliances by carrying out preparatory tasks and providing assistance to ensure reliable and safe operation.
+ Apply safe systems of work at an elementary level to protect the environment and the wellbeing of oneself and others, including correct use of personal protective equipment.
+ Identify, assess, prioritize, and manage risks in the production process at an elementary level under supervision, escalating issues as needed.
+ Develop, monitor, interpret, and understand operational policies and procedures with guidance to ensure alignment with organizational strategies and objectives.
+ Plan, organize, prioritize, and oversee daily activities with guidance to meet business objectives and production schedules efficiently.
+ Prepare and review clear, concise, and effective reports under supervision to document production activities, quality checks, and equipment status.
+ Support a culture of learning and development by participating in cross-training and skill-building opportunities and encouraging peers to grow and develop.
+ Ensure full compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and internal standards in daily operations.
Essential Skills
+ Experience working in a chemical or manufacturing environment, ideally in sectors such as chemical, pharmaceutical, or food and beverage production.
+ Hands-on experience with chemical operations including compounding, blending, batch making, and chemical mixing.
+ Ability to operate basic manufacturing equipment and carry out routine tasks accurately and safely.
+ Demonstrated capability to follow strict, detailed work instructions and established processes without constant supervision.
+ Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles and working within strict quality standards.
+ Basic understanding of safe systems of work and risk management in a production setting.
+ Ability to work within defined process settings and parameters and adjust operations as directed.
+ Elementary verbal communication skills to express ideas, request actions, and contribute to plans and policies under supervision.
+ Ability to develop, monitor, and interpret policies and procedures with guidance to support operational goals.
+ Capability to plan, organize, and prioritize work activities with guidance to meet production and business objectives.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Secondary or intermediate education (such as completion of 2 GCSEs or equivalent).
+ Experience in chemical manufacturing environments is preferred over settings that do not routinely follow GMP guidelines.
+ Comfort working under supervision while progressively taking on more responsibility as skills develop.
+ Ability to produce clear and effective written reports under guidance.
+ Willingness to participate in cross-training and internal development opportunities.
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and compliance.
