The UAB Ameri Corps program is a year-long service and leadership program that provides opportunities to create and sustain effective, mutually beneficial collaborations with the Birmingham area and rural communities in the Black Belt region of Alabama. Our VISTA program aligns primarily with economic development, education, food security, and public health. The VISTA program also develops programs designed to address educational inequity and economic initiatives in collaboration with community-based organizations.

Member DutiesThe Environmental Stewardship VISTA will strengthen organizational systems to support effective environmental planning, preparedness, and project coordination. The VISTA will build capacity to secure and manage resources, recruit and retain volunteers, and deliver accessible environmental education and community engagement opportunities. Additionally, the VISTA will improve communication strategies and operational practices that support the long-term sustainability of environmental stewardship initiatives.
