Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Housing Authority Birmingham District's has twelve traditional sites that, serve as hubs of resources for Birmingham’s public housing residents and community members, connecting residents to social service and opportunity agencies in one location. It is at these centers where individuals and families have the opportunity to access resources designed to put them on a path of financial stability, social awareness, and self-sufficiency.

The VISTA project goals align with the Economic Opportunity focus area of the CNCS by seeking to promote programs and organizations focusing on self-sufficiency and basic needs; preparing economically disadvantaged residents to join the local workforce; engaging residents in activities that promote self-sufficiency; and helping residents to transition from public housing to the mixed-income, private-sector housing. Ultimately, the Community Development and Outreach Coordinator VISTAs will assist in preparing families to make steps towards economic and housing self-sufficiency.

The goal of the Community Centers is to equip families residing in the HABD community to become economically self-sufficient through the following but not limited to: education, home ownership, employment/ job training, financial stability, and healthcare. By focusing on these areas, VISTAs will help the Community Center Coordinators produce tangible benefits that can illustrate its commitment to fighting poverty by creating engaging services and programs to help economically disadvantaged families break the inter- generational poverty cycle.
