The Director of Development is a full-time, on-site role based in Birmingham, AL, responsible for leading and executing Alabama Policy's fundraising and donor engagement strategy. This role oversees the planning and implementation of annual and long-term development initiatives, including individual giving, major gifts, and planned giving programs. Day-to-day responsibilities include cultivating and stewarding donors, managing development campaigns, preparing funding proposals and reports, and organizing donor events and outreach activities.
The Director of Development collaborates with senior leadership to align fundraising goals with organizational priorities, manages development budgets and forecasts, and maintains accurate donor records and analytics. This position also supports board development efforts, represents the organization at external events, and contributes to messaging that strengthens Alabama Policy's visibility and impact.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising and philanthropy, including cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors
- Proficiency in planned giving strategies and annual giving programs, with a track record of growing donor bases
- Strong budgeting and financial management skills related to development planning and revenue forecasting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling proposals and donor materials
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, board members, and community partners
- Experience managing development operations, including donor management systems and data-driven reporting
- Strategic thinking and project management skills, with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or Public Policy, or equivalent experience
- Background in non-profit, public policy, or advocacy organizations is preferred
