Advanced Practice Provider – Pediatric Gastroenterology

The following APPs may be considered for this role:
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, or Family Nurse Practitioner.

Work schedule:

Full-time, Day shift Monday‑Friday 8 am‑5 pm. No weekends, holidays or call. CME allowance:
Full‑time and part‑time benefited APPs receive an annual $2,000 CME allowance for recertification, fees, CMEs, etc.

Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Provision of direct medical care to inpatient and outpatient pediatric patients, both acutely and chronically ill.
  • Participation in patient rounds and team conferences.
  • Participation in staff development and education.
  • Participation in parent education and discharge planning.
General Responsibilities

Provide medical care and treatment within established scope of practice to pediatric patients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician, or under supervision of a Board‑Certified Physician. Coordinate plan of care, discharge, and specialty referrals to meet age‑specific needs. Plan and coordinate health‑care education for patient, family, and other health‑care providers. Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.

Interpret, analyze and evaluate patient medical records and social data. Perform or assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement. Coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Based on thorough physical and psychosocial patient assessments, formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Plans include patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
  • Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
  • Maintain records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC). Coordinate and/or participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
  • Assist in the coordination of research protocols, serving as patient advocate and liaison between the patient and other health‑care providers.
  • Assist in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed.
  • Provide educational information by conducting workshops, in‑service training and distributing materials for patients and staff.
  • Serve as the expert clinical resource to the clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.
  • Provide a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Alabama is required for approval and for subsequent renewal.
  • Master’s degree or higher in nursing, completion of a nurse practitioner educational program.
  • Certification as a Pediatric NP, Pediatric Acute Care NP, or Family NP from a national certifying body recognized by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
Preferred
  • At least 4 years of nursing experience, with a minimum of 2 years in the subspecialty area.
  • Current BLS instructor, PALS instructor, or NRP instructor.
  • Previous demonstration of expert clinical, management, teaching, research, and consultation skills.
License, Certification And/Or Registration
  • Required:

    Current Alabama CRNP license; current BLS and PALS certification required or must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Preferred:
    Meet the qualification for approval to practice as a nurse practitioner per section 610‑x‑9‑0.9 of the Alabama Board of Nursing Administrative Code.

  • Knowledge of procedures, protocols, information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, disease and deformities.
