Serving the Homewood community, Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital is a 595‑bed acute‑care hospital located in Birmingham, Alabama. The facility offers a full complement of services, including emergency care, cardiovascular care, bariatrics, orthopedics and rehabilitation, and surgical services. It also is one of the largest providers of psychiatric care in the state. The hospital has earned Primary Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission, and its bariatric program has been accredited as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).
The Women’s Medical Center provides comprehensive women’s services through all stages of life, including gynecologic surgery, maternity care, and labor and delivery services. Additionally, the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) holds Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission.

At Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital the LPN provides and documents individualized patient care to include patient evaluation, education, medication administration, IV therapy, treatments and patient safety as directed by the RN or provider. Our ortho/spine unit is a 30 bed unit with a 6:1 nurse to patient ratio.

Our Orthopedic Spine Unit is a fast‑paced, highly rewarding environment focused on helping patients regain mobility and strength after spine and orthopedic surgeries. You'll work alongside a dedicated, collaborative team of professionals who value clinical excellence, teamwork, and compassionate care.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates competency in advanced practical nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit specific requisite skills.
- Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the RN and other members of the healthcare team.
- Assists RN or provider during examinations and procedures.
- Documents patient data, and patient education according to Baptist Health and department specific guidelines.
- Able to perform triage functions, including assessing the patient and determining next step in care, working in collaboration as directed by the department nursing team or provider(s).
- Appropriately administer oral and injectable medications or immunizations per LPN scope and as directed by a provider.
- Maintains a safe and caring environment for both patient and family.
- Assumes an active role in keeping informed about changes in hospital policy, procedure, and equipment.
- Participates in nursing PI activities as assigned.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
