Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Inpatient Interventional Cardiology
Eligible ApplicantsAcute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
SchedulePart‑time, benefited. 2–10 hour shifts with one weekend per month. Weekends and holidays are required.
BenefitsAnnual CME allowance of $2,000 for full‑time and part‑time benefited APPs.
Position SummaryProvide medical care and treatment within the established scope of practice under the direction of a collaborating physician or a Board‑Certified Physician. Coordinate care plans, discharge, specialty referrals, and health‑care education. Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments. Interpret and evaluate patient records. Assist or perform procedures per collaborative agreement. Participate in performance improvement activities.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans, including education, prescriptions, labs, and therapies.
- Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Maintain records and reports required by regulatory agencies and the Joint Commission.
- Coordinate and participate in performance and quality‑improvement activities.
- Assist in research protocols, serving as patient advocate and liaison among providers.
- Provide assistance in orientation and training of new clinical personnel; conduct workshops and in‑service training; distribute educational materials.
- Serve as the expert clinical resource to staff and patients in the specialty area.
- Provide a safe environment for patients and others.
- Demonstrate responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in Nursing with an Acute Care NP certification or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Work experience does NOT substitute for the required education.
- Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) certified with CRNP Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Physician Assistant (PA‑C) licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association within 30 days of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required depending on the unit/department.
- Knowledge of procedures, protocols, information, and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, disease, and deformities.
- Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools, and programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Self‑directed and self‑motivated.
- Ability to multi‑task and problem‑solve.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
