Position Description
Advanced Practice Provider – UAB Cardiology Acute Care Services
Schedule- Full‑time, 12 hour AM shift (6 am–6 pm)
- Weekends and holidays required
- No on‑call obligations
Weekend shift differential: $50 per shift
CME AllowanceAnnual allowance of $2,000 for qualifying CME activities.
Position SummaryProvide non‑surgical inpatient care, consults, and management for patients with heart failure, chest pain, CAD, and arrhythmias within an APP‑lead 24/7 acute care cardiology service. Must be an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with a minimum of two years of inpatient cardiology experience.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough physical and psychosocial assessments; formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and patient/family education.
- Ensure complete documentation of assessments, care plans, and care provided.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Maintain records and reports in accordance with regulatory requirements and The Joint Commission.
- Participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
- Assist in coordinating research protocols and act as patient advocate and liaison.
- Provide orientation and training to new clinical personnel; conduct workshops and distribute educational materials.
- Serve as an expert clinical resource to staff and patients in cardiology.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Demonstrate continued professional growth and self‑direction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum education:
Master’s degree in Nursing with Acute Care NP certification, or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Educational credentials cannot be substituted with work experience.
- Certified Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing, OR licensed Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with PA‑C certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required; must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required based on unit/department.
- Knowledge of procedures, protocols, and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, disease, and deformities.
- Proficiency with computer systems, tools, and programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Self‑directed and self‑motivated.
- Ability to multitask and problem‑solve.
- Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
