Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Inpatient Interventional Cardiology

UAB Medicine is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for our Inpatient Interventional Cardiology service. The role includes consults and inpatient management for patients with cardiac conditions ranging from coronary disease to structural or valvular abnormalities. APPs must be able to work in a fast‑paced clinic with multiple providers.

Work Schedule

Part‑time, benefited

2–10 hour shifts with 1 weekend per month

Weekends and holidays required.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Weekend shift differential: $50 per shift
  • CME allowance: $2,000 per year (full‑time and part‑time benefited APPs)
Position Summary

Provide medical care and treatment within the established scope of practice to medically stable patients as assigned by the collaborating physician or under the supervision of a board‑certified physician. Coordinate plan of care, discharge, and specialty referrals. Teach patients, families, and other staff. Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments. Interpret and analyze patient records and social data. Assist in procedures per collaborative agreement and participate in performance improvement activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans based on thorough physical and psychosocial assessments, including patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
  • Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
  • Maintain records and reports required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
  • Assist in the coordination of research protocols and serve as patient advocate and liaison.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new clinical personnel; conduct workshops, in‑service training, and provide educational materials for patients and staff.
  • Serve as the expert clinical resource to staff and patients in the specialty area.
  • Provide a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
