Job Title

Advanced Practice Provider - UAB Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU)

Shift Schedule

Full‑time, 12‑hour evening shifts (7p.m.–7a.m.).

Rotating weekends and holidays; occasional on‑call duty.

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical care and treatment within established scope of practice to surgical patients under the direction of the collaborating physician.
  • Coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate.
  • Plan and coordinate health‑care education for patient, family and other health‑care providers.
  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.
  • Interpret, analyze and evaluate patient’s medical records and social data.
  • Assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement.
  • Coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.

Key

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on surgical interventions, including patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
  • Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.
  • Maintain records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC). May coordinate and/or participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
  • Assist in coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and liaison between the patient and other health‑care providers.
  • Provide assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed. Conduct workshops, in‑service training and distribute appropriate materials for patients and staff.
  • Serve as the expert clinical resource to clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.
  • Provide a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
