Advanced Practice Provider - UAB Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU)

Shift Schedule

Full‑time, 12‑hour evening shifts (7p.m.–7a.m.).

Rotating weekends and holidays; occasional on‑call duty.

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

Provide medical care and treatment within established scope of practice to surgical patients under the direction of the collaborating physician.
Coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate.
Plan and coordinate health‑care education for patient, family and other health‑care providers.
Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.
Interpret, analyze and evaluate patient’s medical records and social data.
Assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement.
Coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.

Key

Duties & Responsibilities:

Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on surgical interventions, including patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.

Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.

Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.

Maintain records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC). May coordinate and/or participate in performance and quality improvement activities.

Assist in coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and liaison between the patient and other health‑care providers.

Provide assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed. Conduct workshops, in‑service training and distribute appropriate materials for patients and staff.

Serve as the expert clinical resource to clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.

Provide a safe environment for patients and others.

Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.

Perform other duties as assigned.
