Advanced Practice Provider - UAB Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit

Applicants:
Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Schedule & Commitment
  • 12‑hour shifts, PM (7pm–7am) only on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • 1.0

    FTE, salaried, with 3 full shifts per week and 4 hours per week of administrative duties
  • Rotating holiday schedule
  • One‑year commitment for weekend position; exceptions must be approved by APP Leadership
Compensation
  • Weekend‑only stipend: $2,500/month (annualized $30,000)
  • Extra shift pay: eligible for outside‑schedule shifts; $80/hr for AM and $90/hr for PM shifts
  • Full‑time benefits applicable to this position
General Responsibilities

Provide medical care and treatment within the established scope of practice to surgical patients, under the direction of a collaborating physician or a board‑certified physician.

Coordinate care plans, discharge, and specialty referrals, and perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments. Perform or assist in procedures as per collaborative agreement, and participate in performance improvement activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans based on thorough physical and psychosocial assessments, including patient and family education, prescriptions, laboratory and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
  • Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and services provided.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
  • Maintain required records and reports for regulatory agencies and the Joint Commission; coordinate and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with the coordination of research protocols and act as a patient advocate, serving as a liaison between patients and other health‑care providers.
  • Provide orientation and training to new clinical personnel, and conduct workshops and in‑service training for staff and patients.
  • Serve as an expert clinical resource to staff and patients in the specialty area.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
