full-time and part-time AM and PM
Schedules: 7 a.m.

As one of the largest ICUs in Alabama and one of the largest neuroscience ICUs in the southeast, the Neurosciences ICU (NICU) is a 42-bed intensive care unit providing treatment and care to neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, and trauma patients at our Level I Trauma Center.
UAB Neurology and Neurosurgery is consistently ranked among the top 50 programs of its kind nationally and is the No. 1 program in Alabama.
Our NICU nurses participate in specialized treatments, including managing external ventricular drainage (EVD) systems for patients with intracranial pressure (ICP) and administering intrathecal medications. The unit offers a unique opportunity for nurses to gain specialized training and develop their skills.
Job DescriptionUse the nursing process to care and/or counsel individuals in the promotion and maintenance of health, using systematic critical thinking to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, and intervention. Support patient, family, and community through care, education, counseling, and therapeutic interventions. Identify patient needs using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model. Delegate, coordinate, and manage all aspects of nursing care provided to the patient and their family in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
Deliver patient care in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
- Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required for certain units.
- Work experience does NOT substitute for educational requirements.
