Position Overview

    The following APPs may be considered for this role:
    Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Shifts:

    12 hr - PM shifts - Weekends Only (5pm-5am). The APP PM weekend schedule is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • Schedule:

    This position is a 1.0 salaried FTE that works a weekend schedule of three (3), 12-hour shifts per week, with the remaining four (4) hours per week dedicated to administrative activities. This team offers a rotating holiday schedule.
  • Commitment: APPs accepting a weekend position agree to a one (1) year commitment in the weekend position. Any exception must be approved by APP Leadership.
Compensation
  • Sign-on Agreement: A $10,000 sign-on bonus may be available.
  • Weekend Only Stipend Pay: APPs working exclusively weekend nights will be eligible for a $2,500 stipend ($30,000 when annualized), paid monthly.
  • Extra

    Shifts:

    APPs holding a weekend position are eligible for extra shift pay if extra shifts are worked outside of their required schedule. Extra shifts worked during the week will be paid at the regular extra shift rate ($65/hr- AM and $75/hr - PM)
  • Benefits:
    This full-time advanced practice provider (APP) position is eligible for benefits.
  • CME Allowance:
    Full-time APPs at UAB Medicine receive a $2,000 allowance per year for continuing medical education (CME) opportunities.
Job Highlights

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position for the Anesthesia Critical Care team in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NICU) role includes providing inpatient critical care services and participating within an interdisciplinary team serving as a consult/co‑managing service for Neurosurgery and Neurology patients admitted to the NICU. Each APP utilizes the skillset of performing physical exams, obtaining history and physical assessments as well as completing daily progress notes, structuring and facilitating medical management of critically ill patients, performing approved routine bedside procedures, as well as participating in multidisciplinary rounds and coordinating care with admitting and consulting services.

As one of the largest ICUs in Alabama and one of the largest neuroscience ICUs in the southeast, the Neurosciences ICU (NICU) is a 36‑bed intensive care unit providing treatment and care to neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, and trauma patients at our Level I Trauma Center. UAB Neurology and Neurosurgery is consistently ranked among the top 50 programs of its kind nationally by U.S. News & World Report, which also has ranked UAB's program as No.

1 in Alabama. UAB is also Alabama's first Comprehensive Stroke Center, so as soon as patients arrive, we are prepared to deliver the latest stroke treatment. These recognitions showcase why this team is highly trained and dedicated to care for some of our most critical patients.
