Schedule Composition = Three, 8 hour shifts (7a-3p, 3p-11p, or 11p-7a) on Weekdays M-F PLUS Two, 12 hour shifts Sat & Sun (7a-7p or 7p-7a) Every Other Weekend
New Hires MUST HAVE availability to attend an 8- business day Orientation from 8a-4p without interruptions.
Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services is the only free‑standing, full‑service psychiatric hospital in the Greater Birmingham, Ala area, offering inpatient and outpatient care.
Hill Crest Behavioral Health is currently seeking an energetic and dynamic professional to join our team as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The LPN provides nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process and is directly responsible to the Nurse Manager, RN House Supervisor, or RN Charge Nurse for quality patient care.
Duties and accountabilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge, effectiveness and efficiency in providing nursing care.
- Provides nursing care based on the patient’s nursing care plan under the direction of the physician.
- Observes patient behavior and notifies appropriate staff.
- Assists in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment that respects patient’s rights.
- Assists the physician with physical exams.
- Assists with admissions, discharge, and transfer of patients.
- Completes rounds and observes precautions and documents.
- Ensures that patients and families are oriented to the hospital and unit program.
- Collaborates with members of the other disciplines.
- Demonstrates awareness of unit policies to include contraband and sharps, search policy, and understands significance of enforcing these policies to promote a safe, drug‑free environment.
- Effectively communicates patient observations, changes in condition, response to medications, changes in behavior, etc. to the charge nurse and documents in the patient’s medical record as indicated.
- Carries out and documents patient and/or family/guardian education, according to the age/gender needs and values of the patient and according to the Master Treatment Plan and adhering with established policy and procedure.
- Safely prepares, administers, and monitors results of medications as evidenced by documentation on the Medication Administration Record.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current status as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Alabama.
- One (1) year of experience in psychiatric nursing preferred.
- LPN must have credentials to direct physical management of the patient and have current CPR certification.
- New hires are required to attend 1 full week of New Employee Orientation on day shift, normally 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
- Must successfully pass background check (includes criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check) and drug screen.
