Job Description & How to Apply Below
Director of Emergency Services - Acute Care Hospital, Northwest Alabama Region About Us
- Lead the largest and busiest Emergency Department in the region. This is a rare opportunity to take the helm of a high‑acuity, high‑volume ED at a 275‑bed acute care hospital that serves as the primary referral center for major trauma cases across Northwest Alabama.
- As Director of Emergency Services, you will oversee a 24/7, 36‑bed department supported by a collaborative team of 70 RNs and nursing support staff, caring for approximately 46,000 patients annually, one of the largest and busiest emergency departments within a national health system.
- The department also includes an eight‑bed specialty unit dedicated to senior patients, offering a calmer care environment with specially trained staff and access to a gerontologist for coordinated, patient‑centered care across the continuum.
- This hospital is a Certified Chest Pain Center and a recognized Primary Stroke Center of Excellence, and offers the community's only open‑heart surgery program along with a full line of women's and children's services.
- Leadership here places a genuine premium on investing in its people, with strong support for professional growth, including an Associate CNO structure that gives high‑performing Directors a real, proven pathway toward the C‑suite.
- Beyond the role itself, this opportunity is based in a vibrant Southern community known for its rich musical heritage and deep‑rooted recording history that has drawn world‑renowned artists for generations.
- Set along a scenic river with abundant lake and outdoor recreation nearby, the area offers a relaxed, four‑season lifestyle paired with a notably low cost of living relative to director‑level compensation.
- A nearby university brings added energy, culture, and amenities, while a major metro is within easy driving distance for big‑city access when desired, all combining to make this a highly livable, budget‑friendly relocation for the right candidate.
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of Emergency Services.
- Design and implement innovative programs that improve patient outcomes and ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective care.
- Serve as the accountable leader for the department, driving continuous improvement in outcomes, cost of care, and patient satisfaction.
- Partner with quality leadership to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and advance the organization’s standing as a highly reliable organization.
- Collaborate with service line leaders, facility leadership, and system executives to deliver consistent, patient‑centered care.
- Support provider and staff recruitment, retention, and engagement.
- Oversee ongoing staff education, competency, and adherence to clinical and patient safety standards.
- Partner with physicians and advanced practice providers to enhance care coordination, patient experience, and service delivery.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Current state RN license or eligibility for licensure.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in Emergency Services.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and build effective working relationships across departments.
- Experience with budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation in an acute care setting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and lead performance‑improvement initiatives.
- BLS and ACLS required, or obtainable within a defined timeframe.
- Lead the largest, busiest ED in the system and region — high visibility, high impact.
- Associate CNO structure offers a genuine, proven track for advancement into the C‑suite.
- Strong system investment in employee well‑being and professional growth, including tuition and certification assistance, loan assistance, and a 401(k) match.
- Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, paid family leave, and PTO.
- Full‑time, exempt leadership position with a competitive base plus performance bonus.
- Relocation consideration.
