Staff Nurse MedSurg Acute Care Unit

Work schedule:

Weekends only, Day‑Evening Shift, every Saturday and Sunday.

The staff nurse is a professional nurse who, with minimal supervision, is responsible for providing nursing care to patients. Patient care includes assessment, interventions, and reassessments of the patient. The nurse is also responsible for planning, implementing, educating, and evaluating care of patients and caregivers.

The staff nurse provides nursing care in the Med Surg Dearth at Main Campus Dearth Tower, an area consisting of three 15‑bed pediatric med/surg units. Patients are typically admitted under Pediatric Hospital Medicine physicians, with common diagnoses including asthma exacerbation, bronchiolitis/RSV, pneumonia, cellulitis/abscess, neonate with fever, dehydration, gastroenteritis, status post tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, and bilateral myringotomy tubes. The average length of stay is approximately two days.

The nurse plans, implements, educates, and evaluates patient and caregiver care.

Every Saturday and Sunday, Day‑Evening Shift, 12‑hour shifts.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current RN license in the State of Alabama.
• Current BLS certification.

• Registered Nurse AL Single State or one of the following equivalents:
  Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State, Registered Nurse Non‑AL NLC Multi State.
• Basic Life Support.

• Associate of Science Nursing in Nursing.

The Dearth Tower comprises three 15‑bed pediatric med/surg units located on 5 Dearth, 6 Dearth, and 7 Dearth in the McWane building of Children’s of Alabama. Most patients are admitted under Pediatric Hospital Medicine physicians. Common diagnoses include asthma exacerbation, bronchiolitis/RSV, pneumonia, cellulitis/abscess, neonate with fever, dehydration, gastroenteritis, status post tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, and bilateral myringotomy tubes. Average length of stay is about two days.
