Advanced Practice Provider - UAB Women’s Reproductive Health
Position Overview:
The UAB Division of Women’s Reproductive Health seeks an Advanced Practice Provider, preferably a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, to deliver obstetric and gynecologic care. The role includes history and physical examinations for routine obstetric patients and well-woman gynecologic visits, evaluation and management of GYN and OB complaints, and collaboration with obstetricians in managing postpartum patients during hospital stays. The APP performs procedures such as endometrial and vulvar biopsy, IUD removal and insertion, and Nexplanon insertion and removal.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
• Full‑time, day shift, Monday‑Friday 8 AM–5 PM
• Approximately 6 weekends and 2 holidays per year
• Weekend shift differential $50 per shift
• CME allowance $2,000 annually (for recertification and CME courses)
• Full‑time benefits eligible
General Responsibilities:
- Provide medical care and treatment within the established scope of practice as directed by a collaborating physician or supervising board‑certified physician.
- Coordinate plan of care, discharge planning, and specialty referrals appropriate to patient age and needs.
- Plan and coordinate health‑care education for patients, families, and other health‑care providers.
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.
- Interpret and evaluate patient medical records and social data.
- Assist physicians with procedures per collaborative agreement.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities.
Key
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans based on physical and psychosocial assessments.
- Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and services provided.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Maintain records and reports mandated by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission.
- Assist in the coordination of research protocols and serve as a patient advocate.
- Provide orientation and training to new clinical personnel; conduct workshops and in‑service training.
- Serve as a clinical resource to staff and patients.
- Provide a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Demonstrate professional growth and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Nursing with Women’s Health NP or Family NP certification (work experience does not substitute).
- Prior OB experience required for Family NPs.
- Certified Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required or to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the AHA may be required depending on unit/department.
- Knowledge of procedures, protocols, information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, disease and deformities.
