Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) For Sleep Neurology Service
The Birmingham VA Health Care System is recruiting for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) for Sleep Neurology Service. The Neurology Sleep Advanced Practice Provider (Sleep APP) is a specialty care provider who has an advanced practice provider degree and works full-time. The Sleep APP functions as a licensed independent practitioner contributing as part of the Neurology Sleep provider team in conjunction with the sleep physicians involved in daily operations of the Birmingham VA's Neurology Sleep Service.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Independently provides initial and follow-up evaluation and management for patients with the full spectrum of sleep disorders via in-person and clinical video telemedicine (including consulting with sleep physicians for complex sleep questions as appropriate).
- Serves as the point of contact for Neurology Sleep consult review/screening/triage.
- Provides sleep medicine education and counseling to patients/sleep employees/other VA staff.
- Provides clinical sleep medicine support to Neurology Sleep employees.
- Assists in responding to sleep related patient phone calls/messages/and in-person walk-in visits.
- Orders/reviews lab work related to sleep medicine evaluations as indicated.
- Orders polysomnographic studies (Home and Sleep Laboratory studies) as indicated.
- Prescribes and refills any medication listed on the VA hospital formulary except for Schedule II, III, IV, V Narcotics, chemotherapeutic agents and anesthetics per Birmingham VA guidelines.
- Consults other non-Sleep services as indicated for the health of the patient, participates in Sleep quality improvement projects, mentors Sleep nursing staff, and other additional duties based on Neurology Sleep Service needs.

Pay:

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment) Authorized:
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
