Infection Control Manager

Provides leadership and accountability for infection prevention and control practices throughout the organization. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates infection prevention and control practices based on current evidence, policies, guidelines, and age-specific components. Establishes infection surveillance indicators and monitors infection trends to identify and reduce the risk of acquiring and transmitting infections among patients, employees, visitors, and students. Conducts infection control risk assessments and contributes to the annual Infection Control Risk Assessment, including identifying resources needed and revising plans as necessary.

Provides education, consultation, and ongoing guidance to staff on infection prevention, infection control, epidemiology, and evidence-based clinical practices. Develops and provides annual and ongoing infection control education and training for employees. Collaborates with Employee Occupational Health (EOH) and interdisciplinary teams to plan and implement infection prevention programs, including immunization programs. Participates in organizational programs and committees related to infection prevention, including Reusable Medical Equipment (RME), Construction, and Water Safety.

Participates in infection control risk assessments for construction projects and conducts walk-throughs to inspect and review infection prevention practices. Develops, implements, and maintains systems for collecting, analyzing, trending, and reporting infection control data. Assists with developing, maintaining, and revising policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, outbreak and exposure investigations, and other required documentation. Ensures the Infection Control Program complies with applicable Veterans Health Administration (VHA), The Joint Commission (TJC), OSHA, OIG, and State requirements.

Reviews and revises facility policies and procedures based on changes to national infection prevention and control standards and recommendations. Collaborates with clinical and administrative departments, including Industrial Hygiene, Patient Safety, Engineering, Risk Management, and Employee Occupational Health, to provide reports, consultation, and infection control guidance. Serves on facility committees to communicate, educate, and provide consultation related to infection prevention and control.

Serves as a liaison with Public Health officials regarding communicable disease reporting and other epidemiologically significant findings. Consults with services and departments to assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of Infection Control Program requirements. Applies current epidemiological principles to the systematic collection and analysis of infection data. Participates in infection prevention studies, education, research, and performance improvement activities. Promotes fiscal responsibility and effective use of resources within infection prevention activities.

Provides leadership in performance improvement efforts to improve infection prevention measures, patient safety, quality of care, and organizational outcomes. Fosters a safe and supportive environment and supports the professional development of healthcare professionals through knowledge sharing, education, consultation, and collaboration.
