Pay range: $30.00 - $48.00 / hour

Shifts: Full-Time and Part-Time AM and PM, Full-Time and Part-Time Weekend AM and Weekend PM, Flexi/PRN

Schedules: 7 a.m.

-7 p.m., 7 p.m.

-7 a.m.

Job Highlights

The Spinal Cord Injury Program (SCIP) at UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center’s UAB Rehabilitation Pavilion is a 26-bed acute care unit serving patients with spinal cord injuries or illnesses resulting from traumatic or non-traumatic events. You’ll care for a highly specialized patient population while working in a unit designed to support safe mobility, strong teamwork, and exceptional outcomes. As a rehabilitation nurse at UAB Medicine, you’ll play a critical role in helping patients restore independence and rebuild their lives after injury.

You’ll collaborate with a highly skilled, interdisciplinary team delivering comprehensive, evidence-based care while receiving support through opportunities like our career ladder and certification reimbursement program. SCIP is part of a state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation hospital designed to promote functional activity at every turn, with 78 rehabilitation beds, overhead lifts and patient repositioners in every patient room, and the most advanced technology throughout the facility.

As a Rehabilitation Innovation Center, UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center is designated by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as a facility leading the nation in innovative care and research. Additionally, UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center is home to one of only 10+ nationally designated Spinal Cord Injury Model System Programs, which are recognized for excellence in spinal cord injury care, rehabilitation research, and long-term patient outcomes.

Job Description

To utilize the nursing process to care and/or counsel individuals in the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of illness and injury. Using a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems through activities such as health teaching, health counseling and the provision of care supportive and restorative of life and supportive of a peaceful death.

To identify patient needs using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model. To delegate, coordinate and manage all aspects of nursing care provided to the patient, their family and our community in a timely and cost-effective manner. To deliver patient care in collaboration with the patient, their family and all members of the health care team and with the knowledge of a licensed physician, psychologist, podiatrist, and/or dentist.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.

Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
