RN Staff Development Coordinator

Birmingham Rehabilitation & Wellness | Birmingham, Alabama | Full-Time | Days, Monday through Friday | $40 to $46 per hour

The Staff Development Coordinator oversees education, onboarding, and competency programs for the nursing department and manages nursing schedules to maintain safe, compliant staffing. This role partners closely with the Director of Nursing, Administrator, and HR to build a skilled, stable workforce.

• Plan, coordinate, and deliver new hire orientation for licensed nurses, CNAs, and other nursing staff
• Develop and maintain the annual in-service calendar, including CNA in-service requirements using our online education portal
• Conduct and document skills competencies at hire, annually, and as needed based on audits, incidents, or survey findings
• Support the Infection Preventionist with infection control, hand hygiene, and PPE training
• Identify training needs through QAPI data, survey results, and staff feedback, and build targeted education plans
• Support CNA training or recruitment pipeline programs where applicable

• Create and publish nursing schedules that meet resident census, acuity, and state and federal staffing requirements
• Manage call-offs, shift coverage, open shift postings, and on-call assignments
• Monitor overtime, and work with leadership to reduce reliance on both
• Help maintain accurate staffing records to support PBJ reporting and daily posted staffing
• Coordinate PTO requests and schedule changes in line with facility policy

• Participate in QAPI, survey readiness, and mock survey activities
• Assist with employee onboarding and retention initiatives
• Serve as a clinical resource and fill in on the floor when needed
• Other duties as assigned

• Current, unrestricted Alabama RN license (or multistate compact license)
• Long-term care or skilled nursing experience strongly preferred
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Comfortable with scheduling and EHR systems (Point Click Care , timekeeping, or scheduling software experience a plus)
• Clear communicator who enjoys teaching and coaching others
