Lab Assistant - Anatomic Pathology

Lab Assistant — UAB St. Vincent’s East Hospital, Birmingham, AL

Labcorp is a leading global life sciences company that provides essential laboratory services to healthcare providers, patients, researchers, and pharmaceutical companies. We are looking for a Lab Assistant to join our high‑volume, production‑based environment at UAB St. Vincent’s East Hospital.

Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 4:30PM, with rotating weekend shifts.

• Receive and sort clinical laboratory specimens.
• Prepare specimens for testing and analysis.
• Scan and/or enter specimen and patient information into the system.
• Ensure all lab equipment is operating correctly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance.
• Troubleshoot specimen‑related issues.
• Replenish test‑bench supplies as needed.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested.
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Two or more years of medical, laboratory, or production experience in a hospital lab setting.

• Comfortable handling of biological specimens.
• Ability to accurately identify specimens.
• Basic computer and data‑entry skills.
• High attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
• Capacity to work in a fast‑paced production environment and meet turnaround times.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.
• Ability to pass a standardized color‑blindness test.
• Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

• Scheduled for less than 20 hours, casual, intern, or temporary employees only eligible for the 401(k) plan.
• Employees on a 7 on/7 off schedule receive all benefits except PTO/FTO.
