OverviewThe University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care, is looking for a dedicated Research Scientist experienced in the extraction and analysis of oxidized lipid mediators and their metabolites in cells and in human-derived samples (urine, tissue, plasma) using solid and liquid phase extraction methods and mass spectrometry.
ResponsibilitiesA Research Scientist conducts advanced studies in a specific field, applying specialized knowledge to drive research projects. This role involves data analysis, interpretation of results, and contribution to scientific literature. The position requires collaboration with peers and adherence to established protocols, with moderate autonomy and responsibility for project deliverables. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Extracts biological samples for oxidized lipid mediator and metabolite analysis.
- Operates mass spectrometer for sample analysis and reports results to PI.
- Communicates with PI and collaborators regarding data.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
$70,425 - $80,000
QualificationsDoctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Master’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences- Experience with solid phase extraction with microelution plates and extraction cartridges, purification using thin-layer chromatography, operation of Waters Xevo mass spectrometers, and operation of Waters HPLCs and UPLCs.
- Experience in the routine maintenance of mass spectrometers.
