Academic Joint Departments – Open Rank / Open Tenure – Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology – Heersink School of Medicine
The Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology (CDIB) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine (HSOM) is actively seeking exceptional candidates for open rank, tenure‑track positions. Candidates should have cutting‑edge research programs in
1) cilia‑mediated signaling and biology or
2) neurodegeneration or neurological injury. This includes individuals with expertise in ciliopathy‑related disorders, cystic kidney diseases, or neuroinflammation using innovative cell, organoid, or in vivo models. Candidates with expertise in other areas synergistic with existing knowledge in our department, such as microscopy, neuroscience, neurooncology, glycobiology, and metabolism, are also encouraged to apply.
CDIB is a basic science department in UAB HSOM. In 2020, it was ranked No. 6 in NIH among cell biology departments with over $16 M in NIH grant awards. The faculty are highly collaborative and conduct robust research and training programs in ciliopathies, neurobiology & neurological diseases, developmental biology, bioengineering & regenerative medicine, cancer biology, immunology and inflammation, fundamental cell biology, physiology & biophysics.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or equivalent terminal degree).
