The Zhou Lab at the Department of Biomedical Engineering the University of Alabama at Birmingham (  ) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our research program in cardiovascular biology, epigenetics, and regenerative medicine.

Our laboratory investigates the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate cardiomyocyte identity, function, and adaptation to stress. The successful candidate will lead NIH
-funded studies investigating how epigenetic regulatory mechanisms contribute to cardiac homeostasis, pathological remodeling, and heart failure. The research will integrate genetic mouse models, cardiovascular disease models, cardiac phenotyping, and genomic and single-cell approaches to uncover mechanisms controlling cardiac function under normal and pathological conditions.

Experience with mouse models and animal handling is strongly preferred. Candidates with training in cardiovascular biology, cardiac physiology, cardiac remodeling, hypertrophy, heart failure, or related areas are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience with cardiovascular disease models, small‑animal surgery, genetically engineered mouse models, echocardiography, cardiac tissue collection, or histological and physiological phenotyping is highly desirable.

Experience in additional areas such as cardiac metabolism, primary cardiomyocyte studies, epigenetics, single-cell/single‑nucleus genomics, or bioinformatics would be advantageous but is not required.

The successful candidate should be highly motivated, scientifically curious, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively. The fellow will have opportunities to lead research projects, publish first‑author manuscripts, present at national and international meetings, develop collaborations, and pursue competitive fellowship and career‑development funding.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in cardiovascular biology, physiology, biomedical sciences, or a related field, with a strong record of research productivity and demonstrated ability to conduct independent research.
