Position Summary

This position will manage large specialized Commercial & Industrial customers within the Alabama Power Company’s Birmingham Division and is responsible for developing strategic customer relationships, achieving sales goals, and maintaining strong customer satisfaction. The role involves deep knowledge of customers’ business, operations, and facilities, serving as the main point of contact for all Alabama Power Company managed customer interactions, including kWh and non‑kWh sales, electrical service, rates/pricing, contract negotiations, and overall customer service.

The role partners with other Alabama Power Company organizations to ensure success and requires excellent interpersonal skills. Availability after hours may be required.

Major Responsibilities
  • Manage assigned Commercial & Industrial customers, including sales, customer service, rates, pricing, and power contracts.
  • Communicate customer information, events, and issues to ensure timely resolutions.
  • Retain and grow revenues from assigned managed customer accounts.
  • Develop and implement effective customer sales, service, energy efficiency, and satisfaction strategies.
  • Continuously assess the condition of the relationship with each customer and develop ongoing strategies for maintaining and improving relationships.
  • Identify and pursue all sales potential.
  • Work with team members to provide support and share best practices.
  • Communicate customers' scheduled events that involve distribution, substation, and transmission.
  • Leverage relationships with Power Delivery, Accounting, Energy Services, and Corporate Marketing partners to better serve the customer and resolve issues.
  • Be available beyond standard work hours to assist with customer-related activity.
Position Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a marketing-related field is highly preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Commercial/Industrial account management and/or Power Delivery.
  • Experience facilitating electric service requests, creating load sheets, and developing sales proposals targeting end‑use and product & service opportunities.
  • Knowledge of appropriate application of rates/pricing, bill calculation, rate studies, and contracts.
  • Proven record of achieving or supporting sales results and delivering excellent customer service.
  • Experience using internal tools such as IDMS‑SAM, iClear, iRate, RateSIM, CSS, CIT, Energy Direct, Sales Cloud, etc.
  • Excellent project‑management skills using MS Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Technical aptitude for commercial and industrial electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Sales focus to independently identify, communicate, manage, and complete a wide range of sales opportunities.
  • Organized self‑starter who proactively strives to meet expectations without routine oversight.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills; effective sales presentation skills.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with people at all levels and in all organizations.
  • Knowledge of Alabama Power Company’s markets, customers, competitors, regulatory environment, operating procedures, etc.
  • Strong business acumen and comprehensive understanding of how the company operates and serves customers.
