The Tutwiler Hotel — a downtown Birmingham landmark since 1914, recently transformed by a full property remodel — is searching for a dynamic, results-driven Director of Sales to lead all revenue-generating strategy for our full-service hotel, complete with extensive meeting space, banquet operations, and a vibrant mix of corporate, group, and leisure business.
This is a rare opportunity to lead commercial strategy at a freshly renovated property with deep historic roots — and help write its next chapter of growth.
What You’ll Own- Set and execute annual and monthly sales strategy across corporate, group, airline, government, association, SMERF, and leisure segments
- Own forecasts, budgets, and performance reporting — translating data into decisions
- Drive new business through proactive outreach, client visits, and community engagement across the Birmingham market
- Partner cross-functionally with Banquets, Catering, Revenue Management, and Operations to deliver seamless group and event execution
- Represent the hotel at industry events, trade shows, and within the local business community
- Leverage the property's newly renovated spaces to attract and win new group, corporate, and event business
- Champion a guest-first culture that reflects A & R Hospitality's standards at every turn
- Proven full-service hotel sales leadership experience, with a track record of driving revenue and developing teams
- Deep knowledge of banquet/catering operations and multi-segment market dynamics
- Mastery of the full sales cycle, from prospecting to closing national and local accounts
- A valid driver's license, clean MVR, reliable vehicle, and active auto insurance (non-negotiable — this role is on the move)
- Sharp written and verbal communication skills, with executive-level presence
- Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- The composure to lead through pressure and the flexibility to work evenings/weekends when business demands it
- Experience leading sales for a newly renovated or repositioned property
- Experience leading multi-property or regional sales initiatives
- Familiarity with hospitality CRM systems and revenue management platforms
- Lead sales at a National Historic Landmark with genuine prestige in the Birmingham market
- Sell a freshly remodeled property with renewed energy and curb appeal
