PPM Consultants, Inc. seeks a Field Technician to support environmental and engineering projects across the Gulf Coast and Southeast. Responsibilities include assisting with soil, groundwater, and air sampling; operation and maintenance of field instruments; site inspections; data collection and documentation; and support of remediation and construction activities. The role requires strict adherence to safety procedures, accurate field notes, and collaboration with engineers and scientists.
This position offers hands-on technical training, exposure to regulatory compliance projects, and opportunities for professional growth in a client-focused, team-oriented culture.
Responsibilities
- Collect soil, groundwater, air, and waste samples following standard procedures
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain environmental monitoring and sampling equipment
- Perform site inspections, surveying support, and basic field measurements
- Document field activities with accurate logs, chain-of-custody forms, and photographs
- Support environmental remediation and construction oversight tasks
- Follow and enforce site-specific health and safety plans and PPE requirements
- Assist with data entry, basic analysis, and preparation of field summaries
- Travel to client sites across the Gulf Coast and southeastern United States
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and scientists
- Maintain vehicles, tools, and field supplies in good working order
Required Skills
- Environmental sampling (soil, groundwater, air)
- Use of environmental field instruments (PID, water level meters, GPS)
- Basic surveying and site layout
- Reading and following health and safety plans (HASP)
- Equipment calibration and routine maintenance
- Field documentation and chain-of-custody procedures
- Basic data entry and use of Microsoft Excel/Word
- Understanding of environmental regulations and standards
- Driving and navigating to remote field sites
- Use of hand tools and small power equipment
