Job Description

The Department of Neurosurgery in the School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham ( UAB ) is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Scientist Instructor to join the NIH
-funded Laboratory of Molecular Neuro-Oncology ( LMNO ). The successful candidate will contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment focused on advancing the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers of the central nervous system.
The competitive candidate for instructor will work closely with the laboratory director and members of the LMNO , as well as investigators across the UAB academic medical center and the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center. The successful candidate will be expected to develop their scholarship by conducting high-quality basic, translational, and/or experimental research; the development and dissemination of scientific knowledge; participate in collaborative research initiatives;

and establish a developing record of scholarly productivity. They will contribute to teaching by training and mentoring LMNO lab members and occasionally participate in classroom teaching. They will develop service by helping with LMNO organization and departmental activities through participation in committees as needed.
This is a non-tenure track faculty position focused primarily on wet laboratory-based cancer research, with opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and career development within an NCI
-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center of a strong academic medical center.
The Department of Neurosurgery is committed to advancing innovative research while educating and training the next generation of neuroscientists and healthcare professionals. This position provides an opportunity for a scientist with a strong interest in neuro-oncology and cancer biology to work on existing NIH
-funded LMNO projects and progressively develop an independent academic research program within a highly collaborative academic medical center. UAB’s research environment provides access to advanced research infrastructure, multidisciplinary scientific expertise, clinical collaborators, and institutional resources that support the translation of laboratory discoveries into improved approaches to the treatment of neurooncological disease.
