NERC CIP Armed Security Operator
The NERC CIP Armed Security Operator position ensures security of APC Corporate Headquarters, associated facilities, critical systems, equipment, operations, and persons. Operate multiple electronic security systems. Enforce company policies and criminal laws. Control access to company property, respond to requests for security services and alarms, coordinate the activities of public safety, medical, and other personnel during emergency situations. Direct and control vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Conduct preliminary investigation of security violations and prepare detailed reports. Assess current physical security, security systems, policies, post orders, and make recommendations for enhancements.
- Monitors and responds to a variety of video surveillance, access control, and intrusion alarms at NERC CIP PSPs.
- Determines response requirements and relative priorities of incidents/alarms; records responses in the appropriate format; conducts preliminary PSP alarm investigations; writes concise and accurate incident reports; immediately reports violations and handles access control issues.
- Dispatches in accordance with established procedures and coordinates situations with the WPSOC Supervisor.
- Maintains relevant knowledge of policies, procedures, and strategies to promote compliance.
- Maintains required internal certifications related to direct knowledge of NERC CIP Cyber Security Standards.
- Administers and enforces policies and procedures.
- Maintains computer‑based security records.
- Provides armed security service for Corporate Headquarters.
- Controls access to Corporate Headquarters and other security posts.
- Assists in ensuring Southern Company’s NERC CIP Physical Security Program is consistent and coordinated with physical security organizations across Southern Company.
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Training certification reflecting knowledge of the business practices required by industry standards.
- Must be available to work shift work, holidays, overtime, during inclement weather, call out, and at designated Company location(s).
- Minimum 3 years of law enforcement, military, private or industrial security preferred.
- Must pass psychological test, drug test, annual firearms qualifications, and Internal Threat Program.
- Must qualify for firearm use and re‑qualify annually with semi‑automatic pistol.
- Must qualify for and obtain a valid state firearm permit and driver’s license.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Knowledge of Software House CCURE preferred.
- Knowledge of Avigilon Software preferred.
- Understanding of NERC CIP‑006 and CIP‑014 security standards helpful.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Superior computer skills, e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Office, multiple functional computer formats.
- Ability to work and make decisions with minimal direct supervision within prescribed policies and procedures.
- Ability to respond to relatively complex technical inquiries regarding access application systems.
- Technical proficiency operating access application systems.
- Ability to coordinate and liaise with Operating Company and Corporate Security groups.
- Ability to evaluate and determine appropriate action in response to PSP alarms.
- Strong analytical logic and reasoning for problem solving.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals under high‑stress situations and perform multiple tasks simultaneously as a team.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships.
- Ability to administer basic first aid/CPR.
- Can multi‑task and perform computer data entry while callers are on the phone.
- Stays current with relevant technology.
- Strong ethics and experience handling sensitive or confidential information.
- Ability to learn and enforce policies and procedures.
- Ability to direct and control vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
- Ability to wear and maintain personal protection equipment.
- Physical activity capability, including running, walking, and lifting.
